Why Portugal?

In 2023, we spent three magical days in the Douro River Valley in Portugal. Now we want to invite our friends and family to spend three days with us again to celebrate our wedding!

How to get to the Douro River Valley

🛬 Flying to Portugal

We strongly recommend flying into the city of Porto (OPO; Francisco Sá Carneiro)

🚂 Getting to the Douro

There is a scenic train called the Linha do Douro that starts at the São Bento station in Porto. We recommend going to the Peso da Régua station. Régua is a large town in the Douro. This train ride is about two hours. There is a station closer to our accommodation at Réde, though this is a smaller town with less ground transportation and fewer things to do.

🛌 Getting to your accommodation

From Régua, it’s about a 20-minute car ride. We recommend using local taxis from town or pre-arranging a car ride through the hotel. Ride-share apps (Uber, etc.) do NOT service the Douro region reliably.

Alternatively, you may decide to rent a car in Porto and have this option for the weekend. From the airport, it is about a 75-minute direct car ride to our accommodation. Our accommodation provides free parking.

Plan to arrive at your accommodation by the evening of Thursday, August 20, 2026

Saying Goodbye 👋

Our brunch and pool party on Sunday will be our final large event of the wedding weekend. We do hope you enjoy this last celebration with us. For those flying out of Porto on Sunday night or Monday morning, be mindful of the time needed to travel to Porto from the Douro River Valley.

Whether our wedding weekend is the first step, last leg, or only part of your time in Europe, we sincerely and deeply appreciate the time and effort you gave to attend this wedding weekend. We do not have a gift registry. Your presence is the greatest gift ❤️.

Things to do in the Douro River Valley

In the city of Peso da Régua, there is a river promenade and many local wine and port stores. 20 minutes south of Régua is the town of Lamego, which is known for its historical monasteries and castle structures. Nearby are several other quintas for wine tasting and vineyard tours. A short drive into the hills are quiet viewpoints and longer trails for hiking.

That said, there’s absolutely no need to go anywhere at all. We’ve privately reserved the entirety of Quinta de São Bernardo for the weekend. The property is fully available for everyone to enjoy. Guests are welcome to relax by the pool, wander the vineyard grounds, go on an e-bike ride, kayak or paddleboard on the river, or simply take in the quiet beauty of the Douro at their own pace.
